An Interview with Fred Lyon: San Francisco Time

Fred Lyon was known a photographer who captured the spirit of San Francisco in brilliant black-and-white starting in the late 1940s. He died yesterday (Aug 25th, 2022) at the age of 97. Most notable were his images from the 1950s of night, rain and fog in the city. They capture the both the literal and figurative atmosphere of San Francisco while evoking its mysterious film-noir spirit missing from conventionally sunny tourist pictures.
